Weymouth Angling Festival – Jack Reynolds

Jack scoops senior trophy at Weymouth…

Elite sea angler Jack Reynolds of Worlebury travelled down to Weymouth to take part in the Weymouth Angling Society and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Sea Angling Festivals 2017. The event held over two days attracted anglers from across the country.

The 11-year-old had two very good days of fishing on board the fishing boat ‘Fish On 2’ owned by Josh Simmonds of Weymouth.

Anglers in the boat festivals competed for a variety of trophies and prizes in both the large and small boat categories – with the winners determined on a catch and release points based system with only specimen fish brought back to the scales.

Jack was using a Shimano rod with a mackerel and squid bait when he caught the best specimen of the day in both the adult and junior sections of the competition. His bull huss, weighing in at 5.18kgs was good enough to win him the Avery Boyce Memorial Trophy and the Juniors Annual Festival Cup. Quite an achievement considering the adult anglers that he was up against.

He is a Year 7 pupil at Worle Community School in Weston-super-Mare and a member of Bristol Channel Fishing – Supporting Angling Communities, where he takes part in match fishing for Channel Anglers.

Jack is sponsored by both Veals Fishing Tackle, Bristol and Baytree Road Garage, Weston-super-Mare.

Also fishing in the competition was Jack’s father, Richard Reynolds, although out-fished by his son, he came away with a cup. He was awarded the Marlboro Cup for the best conger eel. Also fishing on the boat was Jack’s grandfather Geoff Reynolds who on this occasion was out of the prizes.

Following the competition cups and prizes were presented by the Mayor of Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, Councillor Kevin Brookes.
